Turquoise

Turquoise stone is available in varied shades of blue, its color ranges from deep blue to bright blue-green. The copper and iron content in the stone is what gives colors to Turquoise. Turquoise stone is mostly hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum; it is therefore a mineral species of phosphates. Turquoise stone was first discovered in ancient Egypt more than 6000 years ago. Then like today it was associated with protection, thus Turquoise has been found in many ancient Egyptian tombs including that of Pharaoh Tutankhamun by archaeologists. The hardness of Turquoise stone varies from 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a relatively soft stone. The density of Turquoise is between 2.6 and 2.9. Turquoises only exist in a few places in the world. There are several deposits on the American continent, notably in Mexico and the United States. But the largest deposit of blue Turquoise stones are found in Iran, where it is called by its Persian name Firuze or Ferozah which means victorious. Turquoise stones found in Egypt are greener in color. In around the 16th century, the French called this blue stone the Turkish stone, from which the name turquoise has been derived. Turquoise gemstone has been associated with the sky and the ocean and a mix between both by many writers and philosophers. 

In Vedic Astrology, the turquoise gemstone is associated with Planet Jupiter or Brahaspati Dev. Thus, it is associated with wisdom, knowledge and intellect. Many ancient civilizations considered Turquoise a sacred stone. This belief comes in particular from its ability to drive out negative energies and to then convert them into positive ones.
