Zircon

Zircon gemstone is a transparent and a sparkling gemstone. Its physical aesthetics and refractive index make it look similar to a diamond. It is used as a substitute of diamond in Vedic Astrology and jewellery making alike. Although Zircon is found in many colors like blue, green, red, brown but the colourless variety is the most popular. Zircon is regarded as one of the oldest minerals on Earth, with some specimens dating back over 4.4 billion years. The word zircon is believed to be derived from the Persian word 'zargun' which means gold-colored. Zircon gemstone has a high refractive index of 1.92-2.01, giving it exceptional brilliance, and a hardness of 6.5-7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it durable enough. Zircon gemstone is mined in many parts of the world such as Australia and countries in Africa but best quality Zircons are believed to be from Sri Lanka. Zircon stone has a rich history; it has been used since Middle Ages in many ancient cultures as a protective stone and a stone which bestows prosperity.    

In Vedic Astrology, just like diamonds the zircon gemstones are associated with Planet Venus or Shukra Graha. Thus, it is linked with blessings of prosperity, luxury, growth, riches and abundance.
