Satyanarayan Puja and Katha Paath is one the most popular and prevalent Pujas which is done in Indian homes. It is done to revere and honour Lord Satyanarayan, a benevolent and calm manifestation of Lord Vishnu. Satya means Truth and Narayan is Lord Vishnu, thus in the Satyanarayan Puja and Katha Paath, Lord Narayana (Vishnu) is worshipped as the embodiment of truth and Dharma. It is believed that by performing Satyanarayan Puja and Katha Paath a devotee can attain blessing of both Lord Vishnu and Maa Laxmi. Satyanarayan Puja and Katha Paath is preferably performed on Purnima (full moon day) or on the day of Ekadashi but it can be performed on any auspicious day. Devotees usually perform Satyanarayan Puja on or after any auspicious or special occasions or successes such as a new house, car, wedding, job, birthday, and anniversary to thank and worship the Divine.

In the Skanda Purana, Lord Vishnu Himself states to Narada, that doing the Satyanarayana Puja and Katha is the best way to worship Him and end all miseries in the Kal Yug.
