Garuda Purana is one of the 18 Puranasin Smriti, it is one of the most important and significant Vedic literatures. There are 19,000 shlokas in the Garuda Purana which are separated in two parts namely Purva khanda and Uttara khanda. Garuda Purana was narrated to Garuda by Lord Sri Maha Vishnu; it details among many things the afterlife journey of a soul and significance of Dharma and Karma in earthly life and also consequence of one’s karma and fate of sinners in afterlife. Garuda is the Vahana of Vishnu Bhagawan. Garud Purana encourages people to follow the right path of Dharma and conduct good deeds. The text states that people who follow the Garuda Purana's principles have prosperous lives and, when they die, find a spot at the feet of Shrihari Vishnu—gratitude and liberation to our forefathers.  

Garuda Puran Recitation helps a family handle the loss of passing away of a family member. It also helps the departed soul on its journey to Loka and Parloka.
