Planetary Yantras

Yantra is a Sanskrit word which means a machine or instrument. As per Vedic scriptures Yantras are schematic representation of a mantra. When activated or energized using the beej mantra they bless the user with the required benefit. A Yantra which is also known as Mandala encompasses within itself the required geometry or form energy of a mantra or Deity programmed in to them. There are many Yantras, many of which as per ancient scriptures were revealed by the Divine themselves, others were revealed to/by Yogis and ancient sages in their deep state of mediation. The properties and benefits of various Yantras are glorified in almost all Vedic texts, the first reference to Yantras can be found in the most sacred and ancient Veda, the Rig Veda. When placed in a particular direction and activated through Pran Pratistha Puja (Energization) using the beej mantra a Yantra resonates at a specific frequency which the geometry of the Yantra holds. These energetic vibrations correspond to that of a particular mantra chants or that of a particular Deity which in turn helps in the manifestation of the required benefit. Yantras are abode of the Divine, they are also the most efficient tool for worship, dhyaan and meditation; they help enhance focus and concentration.

As per Vedic scriptures, Lord Shiva Himself has explained to Goddess Parvati that Yantras are as essential to Gods as oil is to an oil lamp. Yantras and their significance find first mentioned in Vedas and after that in Puranas and many other Vedic scriptures there onwards. In ancient times, Science of Yantras was taught in ancient Gurukuls. Yantra Shastra a branch of ancient science was entirely dedicated to the study of Yantras. Even Lord Krishna and Balaram studied Yantras in their Gurukul. Lord Krishna has also spoken about Yantras and their significance in Srimad Bhagwad Gita. During ancient times Yantras were used extensively in architecture especially during construction of a temple. Yatra Puja also forms an integral part of Tantra Sadhana like Shakti Sadhaks do Sri Chakra Sadhana using Shree Yantra for power and prosperity. Yantras can be made by etching the geometry on various surfaces such copper, silver, gold, Bhoj Patra and more, many a times they are hand drawn on the ground, at the Puja altar or on the walls of a temple or home. The size and material of the Yantra has its own significance and affects the working of the Yantra.
