Goddess Shailputri is the first amongst the Navdurga Goddesses. She is worshipped on the first day of Navratri festival, which is known as Pratipada. The name Shailputri means Daughter of Mountain as She is the Daughter of Himalayas. ‘Shail’ in Sanskrit mean mountains and ‘Putri’ means daughter. Goddess Shailputri is the consort of Lord Shiva; She in Her previous birth was Goddess Sati, daughter of Daksha Prajapati. Goddess Shailputri is mostly depicted riding the Nandi bull with Trishul, Lotus flower and crescent moon on Her forehead. Goddess Shailputri is worshiped for spiritual upliftment and protection. Goddess Shailputri is also worshiped to pacify malefic effects of Planet Moon (Chandra).

Shailputri Devi Puja and Yajna is done to seek the Divine blessings of Goddess Shailputri for positivity, auspiciousness, peaceful and harmonious home, removal of obstacles and success.
